Welcome to our self-catering holiday resort in Leisure Bay, where you can enjoy a range of seaside activities in a beautiful and eco-friendly setting. Our founder, David, had a vision to create a comfortable and sustainable family holiday experience. He started building the units in 1983 and completed the last section in 1986, with upgrades such as a separate upstairs shower.

Lot 533 was initially zoned as a hotel site, but David’s love for Leisure Bay led him to have it rezoned to general residential, allowing him to build our crescent-shaped units that protect the indigenous vegetation. Our location boasts a temperate climate, with mild to warm winters and warm to hot summers, making it the perfect year-round holiday destination.

One of our most popular activities is rock and surf fishing, with the winter months offering the most rewarding catch. From May to August, depending on water temperature, you can also experience the spectacular sardine run. Nature lovers can witness Southern Right and Humpback whales between August and October, while our endless beaches are perfect for leisurely walks with the opportunity to spot wreck artifacts along the way.

Our resort is also home to a variety of wildlife, including naughty monkeys, a range of birds, red duikers, and bushbuck. If you’re interested in marine life, our rock pools offer a great opportunity to discover fascinating creatures. Botanical studies are another popular activity for those wanting to immerse themselves in the natural environment.

Leisure Bay, South Coast, KZN

Welcome to Leisure Bay, a picturesque village located between Port Edward and Glenmore, just 26 km southwest of Port Shepstone and 98 km southwest of Durban. Our village is often considered an extension of Port Edward, including the neighboring villages of Glenmore, Munster, and Palm Beach.

Leisure Bay is a quiet and unspoilt destination, with most of the area covered in subtropical vegetation due to limited development in the region. Our tranquil lifestyle has also made us a popular destination for artists, many of whom have chosen to live and work in our village.

As the name suggests, Leisure Bay is a perfect holiday destination or relaxation escape for tourists. We have access to three shark-protected beaches – Kidds Beach, T.O Beach, and Ivy Beach – all of which are patrolled by lifeguards during school holiday periods.

Leisure Bay is also home to the Leisure Bay Conservancy, registered with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and Conservation KZN since January 2012. The conservancy includes the area from the Boboyi River in the south, the Thongazi River in the north, the Indian Ocean in the east, and the R61 in the west. Its purpose is to preserve the biodiversity of the natural environment, including coastal and riverine forests, coastal bush, and grasslands. The conservancy also aims to control the invasion of alien species and promote the planting of indigenous vegetation in Leisure Bay. By doing so, we help preserve the wildlife in the area, including caracal, water mongoose, bushbuck, duiker, leopard, and a wide range of bird and insect life.

Leisure Bay is one of six conservancies in the Port Edward/Southbroom area, including parts of a broader green belt that includes the Munster, Trafalgar, Mpenjati, Marina Beach, and Umtamvuna conservancies. We take great pride in our efforts to maintain the natural beauty of our village and surrounding areas for future generations to enjoy.
